The victory of Ademola Adeleke, who emerged as senator-elect for Osun west District in the bye-election of Saturday July 9, has been described as the end of civilian dictatorship in south-west politics by the former governor of Oyo state and national leader of the Accord Party, Rashidi Ladoja.
According to reports, Ladoja made his comments in a statement which was released on Monday July 10.
NAIJ.com notes that Ladoja described Adeleke’s victory as “a good omen for both Accord and PDP in both Oyo and Osun States”, stating that the success “signals the end of civilian dictatorship in south-west politics”.
While congratulating the senator-elect and his constituents for the victory, Ladoja also “reiterated the determination of the Accord party to cleanse Oyo state of APC negative change by ensuring the party serves as a rallying point to defeat the governor Abiola Ajimobi’s surrogate that may be fielded by APC in 2019 elections”.
He stated: “Accord, which is the biggest opposition party in Oyo state, has further commended the biggest opposition party in Osun state, PDP, and the people for doing the needful by recording a resounding victory over the APC candidate in the Osun west senatorial election; and hopefully to completely wipe out the APC from Osun state's political landscape in 2018.”
Ladoja also appealed to senator-elect Adeleke not to desist from the good virtues that his family is known for.
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the Osun west senatorial district by-election.
In what was supposed to be a hotly contested election which took place on Saturday July 9, Adeleke defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mudashiru Hussain who had the backing of governor Rauf Aregbesola.
