- Supreme Court has affirmed Godwin Obaseki as validly elected Governor of Edo state
- Obaseki's victory at the Appealed Court was challenged by the PDP candidate, Ize Iyamu
- The court, however dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit
The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the PDP challenging the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki for lacking in merit.
NAIJ.com gathered that the apex court said it will give its reasons for the judgment on July 24 2017.
Ize-Iyamu had alleged irregularities and gross non-compliance with the Electoral Act against Governor Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 28, 2016 governorship election.
The Edo State Election Petitions Tribunal and the Appeal Court, both in Benin City, have dismissed the petition and upheld the election of Obaseki.
APC polled 319,483 votes as against 253,173 by the PDP.
NAIJ.com had previously reported that the Appeal Court recently validated the election of Obaseki as the governor of Edo state.
The PDP and its candidate, Ize Iyamu had challenged Obaseki’s election, alleging manipulation of the governorship election.
