- The senatorial by-election in Osun state has caused confusion as the the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is defeating that of the APC

- Ademola Adeleke floored Hussain who is the candidate of the APC in most local governments in the state as result are announced

Otunba Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun West senatorial by-election, is in early lead against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP, which posted the result on its social media, said Adeleke beat Mudasiru Hussain of the APC in most of the results currently released.

For example, the final result for Iwo local government area shows that while the APC scored 12,205, the PDP had 12,547.

The same situation happened in Olorunsogo unit 2, Ward 10, in Egbedore local government, where the PDP scored 224 votes against APC’s 107.

Reports however showed that at Unit 1, Ward 3 in Ejigbo local government where Hussain voted, the APC got 152 votes while Adeleke got 148 votes.

Early reports also show that in Unit 1, WARD 1 (Awo/ Abodu), Egbedore local government, Adeleke scored 569 against APC’s 195.

Residents say the election was tilting towards Adeleke as winner because the people are not happy with the way the APC in the state went about nominating a candidate.

Adeleke dumped the PDP in protest as he was not picked to replace his brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who died in alleged mysterious circumstances recently.

NAIJ.com learnt that residents trooped out, defiling the early morning rain, to take part in the exercise.

After voting at Unit 9, Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde compound in Ede North at 8:30, Adeleke said: “As you can see, it rained this morning before the voting exercise commenced.

“This is a signal to the fact that I will carry the day. With this large turnout, it is unarguable that I will beat Hussein hands down by God's grace.”

NAIJ.com had reported that the younger brother of late Isiaka Adeleke, Demola, emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the Osun West Senatorial District bye-election.

It was gathered then that Mr Ademola Adeleke, who had been cleared to contest for the primary on the platform of APC, defected to PDP on Tuesday evening June 13.
