- Kashamu was alleged to have attempted to murder Mr Oladipupo Adebutu
- Buruji Kashamu, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has been ordered to submit himself to the police for investigation
Kashamu was ordered to appear before the police by a Federal High Court in Abuja over an allegation of attempted murder of a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikene/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Mr Oladipupo Adebutu.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba on Thursday July 6 insisted that the senator must honour police invitation extended to him over Adebutu’s petition.
The justice also stated that the same special investigating panel had been directed by the Inspector-General of Police to investigate Kashamu’s counter-petition against Adebutu.
Going further, the justices also insisted that the police must carry out their probe into the allegation leveled against the senator in their facilities and not in private houses of citizens.
However, the judge in a clear message to the police and DSS stated that attempts to capitalize on the investigation by arresting, incarcerating or transporting the senator to the United States on allegations bordering on illicit drug charges will be an unlawful venture.
Mr Oladipupo Adebutu in a petition dated August 22, 2016 alleged that Senator Kashamu in company of some political thugs made attempts to murder him during Peoples Democratic Party’s convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on August 16, 2016.
However, in a counter-petition dated August 26, 2016, Kashamu wrote to the IGP that Adebutu was instigating the police and the DSS against him.
