Dino Melaye asks Senate to stop recall process

Senator Dino Melaye has called on the Nigerian Senate to intervene and stop alleged moves by the Kogi state government to recall him from the red chamber.

The senator representing Kogi west made the call on Tuesday, July 4, during plenary on the floor of the Senate.

Melaye citing order 14, alleged that the recall process was being masterminded by the Kogi state government.

The senator said the names and signatures on the recall register was forged by Kogi state officials.

He said Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state was sponsoring his recall for malicious purposes.

Speaking on the development, deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, said the recall process was dead on arrival going by the constitution.

Ekweremadu noted that the recall process of Melaye by the Kogi state government is an exercise in futility, stating that there are provisions and procedures to be followed on how recall process is carried out.

Ekweremadu said Section 69 of the constitution is the reason Senator Dino Melaye cannot be recalled.

In a related news, Senator Dino Melaye has described the moves to recall him from the Senate as a fake process that is bound to fail.

Melaye, who represents Kogi west district at the Senate made the statement on Tuesday, July 4, in reaction to reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had released the timetable for the commencement of the recall of his recall.

But Senator Melaye has in a series of tweets told his constituents not to be troubled over the process.

The senator urged his supporters to maintain peace, noting that the recall process will fail. He also vowed to continue to speak the truth or represent the voice of the voiceless in Kogi state.
