- Some top personalities in the Kogi state said they are not in support of Dino Melaye in anything
- They insisted that they were disappointed at a statement signed by Okun Development Initiative (ODI) which had reported about their support for Melaye
- The personalities said they wish to state that they do not know ODI and have no relationship with the body in any form
Four prominent elders from Okun ethnic group have refuted a statement that they were supporting Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West.
NAIJ.com had earlier reported that members of Melaye’s constituency were making effort to recall him after accusing him of non performance.
However, it was gathered that the Okun Development Initiative (ODI) in statement on Monday, June 27, declared their support for Senator Dino Melaye.
Among the personalities declaring their support for the embattled senator are Eyitayo Lambo, a former minister of health; Julius Oshanupin, a retired major-general; Bayo Ojo, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and Tunde Ipinmisho.
But in a fresh development, some elder statesmen have denied the claim and vowed to go any length to resist any attempt of anyone who wants to “draw us into the mess going on in Kogi state.''
The elders also said that they do not know ODI and could not have signed a statement that they were not affiliated to.
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly issued by the Okun Development Initiative (ODI) on the ongoing attempt to recall senator Dino Melaye (APC – Kogi west). Curiously our names were given out as signatories to the document.
“We wish to state that we do not know ODI and have no relationship with the body in any form whatsoever.
“It, therefore, follows that we did not and indeed could not have signed any statement for an organisation with which we are not affiliated.
“We have earned our reputations through decades of hard work and would go to any length to resist attempts by anybody or group to draw us into the mess going on in Kogi state.
“This forgery is unacceptable to us and we demand an immediate retraction and an apology from those behind it,'' they said in a statement.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that some top Nigerians standing for the Yoruba speaking part of Kogi had disowned the signatures collected to recall Senator Dino Melaye.
Under the Okun Development Initiative, a socio-cultural association, the top leaders said the recall was the result of misguided advice.
