- Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state said his administration would concentrate on three key areas in the next two years

- Ambode, who explained how this would be done, has also renovated 40 primary health centres to cater for victims of molestation

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has said that his administration would prioritise attention to the power, environment and transportation in the next two years.

This, Ambode said, is to drive all round development of the state.

The governor spoke during an interview session with journalists and noted that the three sectors are crucial to driving every other social infrastructure which his government intends to address.

Ambode said his administration would have a major focus on three areas in the next two years

“The last two years, what we have done is just to create a foundation of a vision that drives Lagos to the next 50 years.

"There is nothing that we can do in the next two years that is ever going to be enough.

“There are three things I want people to watch out for in the next 12 to 18 months, the issue of power, the issue of environment and the sanitation and issue of transportation.

"I believe those three sectors are the key sectors that can drive every other social infrastructure that we will be dealing with in Lagos,” Ambode said.

The governor added that it had become important that the state must strive to be cleaner and safer not just for residents alone, but also for visitors and investors willing to do business.

“Lagos must get cleaner, safer and the way people commune from one place to another and one thing with Lagos, the more success you record, the more people want to come into the city,” the governor said.

The administration is planning to commence the 'Cleaner Lagos Initiative' to improve the environment and make it cleaner, safer and healthier.

Ambode also said the Bus Reform initiative would take off before the end of the year with the introduction of modern buses that would make it easier for the movement of residents.

Concerning power, Ambode said efforts were ongoing to ensure stable supply for all industries in the state adding that the intention was to create embedded power in clusters in the city.

“There are also things that we are looking at from other states. We do not know everything.

"So, there are other states that are doing some things better than us. So, we must be submissive enough to learn from them and the same thing with other states from us.

"And that is whole lesson about leadership, leadership is about learning, it is about listening and which is what we do very well in Lagos,” he said.

Meanwhile, the government has upgraded 40 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state to cater molested women and related cases.

This is just as the Lagos state Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) in partnership with the ministry of Health and the Primary Health Care Board, has stepped up efforts to implement the already launched the Sexual Assault Standing Order and Sexual Assault Evidence Examination kit.

Coordinator of DSVRT, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said at a recent training session for health workers of PHCs, that the centres have been empowered to render 24-hour service, laboratory testing, HIV counselling and testing, and maternal and child health services.

She said the continuous trainings and upgrade of health facilities was in furtherance of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s desire to ensure that all survivors of sexual assault can receive comprehensive medical care at no cost.

“The kits contain the necessary instruments used for evidence examination some of which include microscope slides, saline water, swabs, materials for blood samples, comb, paper sheets for evidence collection such as clothing fibres and hairs, nail pick, gloves.

"The documentation forms which include the consent form and patient history are also included in the kit,” Vivour-Adeniyi said.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has described Lagos state as home for all amid the tension that has taken over states and regions in Nigeria.

Ambode also commended the measures so far by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to quell tensions generated by agitation from some ethnic nationalities seeking to break away from Nigeria.

According to him, the unity of Nigeria should be of paramount importance to all.
