The Nigerian Senate has received massive commendations from Nigerians over the motion adopted which seeks to compel hospitals to treat and provide medical care to gunshot victims without necessarily obtaining a police report.
Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member who represents Oyo central senatorial district and also doubles as the chairman Senate committee on foreign affairs spoke on her reasons for raising this motion in an interview with the SenateTV.
Senator Sunmonu disclosed that the debate on whether a gunshot victim has committed a crime or not before being admitted for treatment should not arise.
She stated further that failure to treat gunshot victims at first call would amount to needless waste of lives and recovery of useful statement that could eventually aid the police in carrying out a thorough investigation.
“With this government of change, I believe things needs to change for the better, Gunshot victims have the rights to be treated, have we established that the victim has done something wrong that deserves to be shot?, If not , we kill innocent people” Senator Monsurat said.
Commending the Senate for tinkering with this important piece of legislation to save victims lives; Facebook users and followers of the Nigerian Senate hailed the Senate on the adoption of the motion.
