EFCC arrests PSC director Emmanuel Ibe for alleged N600m fraud

- A director of administration at the Police Service Commission (PSC) Emmanuel Ibe has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

- Ibe collected N600 million from staff of PSC under false pretence

- Some members of the cooperative had introduced their families to Ibe's business

A director of administration at the Police Service Commission (PSC) Emmanuel Ibe has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

NAIJ.com gathered the director was arrested after a petition by some members of the PSC Cooperative society alleged that Ibe collected N600 million from staff under false pretence.

Ibe who is currently in detention at the EFCC's facility was said to have promised to use the money to purchase lands for the members of the cooperative.

Also, some members of the cooperative had introduced their families to Ibe's business.

But after waiting for several months, without any attempt by Ibe to make the lands available or return the money, the individuals petitioned the chairman of the EFCC over the matter.

The EFCC's spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren who spoke on the matter said Ibe was earlier arraigned by the ICPC on a nine count charge.

He said the matter will be heard before Justice C.N Oji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja.

“It is true. He (Ibe) was arrested and he is in our custody,” Uwujaren said.

Meanwhile ICPC's counsel Golden Iwuagwu said the director fraudulently paid N11.75 million to some staff of the PSC in March 2015.

Iwuagwu said the money paid served as air fare and airport taxi allowances for the staff to travel from Abuja to seven states within Nigeria on official duties.

He also said their were no connecting flights from Abuja to any of ed by Ibe.

Having pleaded guilty, Ibe was however, not suspended by the commission.

Ibe had pleaded guilty but was not suspended from duty contrary to civil service rules.

But Ikechukwu Ani, spokesperson to the PSC said: “The cooperative (society) is a distinct body from the commission. The commission is a government body while the cooperative is a voluntary association; it has nothing to do with the PSC.

“Okiro has nothing to do with the matter. He has never tried to subdue any investigation. He is the chairman of the board and decisions are taken at plenary, not by one man," Ani said.
