The crack team of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ has discovered a new strategy been adopted by rice smugglers to beat law enforcement agents in the country.
Rice is one of the major areas focused on by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in its effort to improve on agriculture.
Led by Assistant Controller RA Adahunse, men of the unit have intercepted a DAF truck with Registration number: XT 223 EKY along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The team said the discovery was based on information of un-customs goods.

“Physical examination revealed 220 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice neatly concealed with cartons of kerosene stoves, bales of bed sheets and other household items with the intention of evading customs law.
“The seized item has a duty paid value of N2,713,491.00 only,” a statement by Jerry Attah, a public relations officer of the NCS, obtained by NAIJ.com said.
NAIJ.com had recently reported that the Nigeria Customs Service has announced it seized some exotic cars from smugglers while vowing tougher sanctions against those who engage in such activities.
The seizures were made under the leadership of the controller its Federal Operations Zone ‘C’ Owerri, Amajam Bukar Alhaji.
