This beautiful and talented Nollywood movie star has graced our screens many times. Her personal life, despite her level of fame, remains a mystery. However, we have managed to compile a comprehensive biography of the Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji, including her early years, career achievements and social media links. Enjoy!
Early life and family background
Genevieve Nnaji was born on May 3, 1979 in the loving family of Theophilius and Bebedatte Nnaji in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. Not long after, her family moved to live in Lagos. She has seven siblings and is the middle child. Her family was middle class: mother worked as a nursery teacher and father was an engineer. She first received her education at Methodist Girls College in Yaba, Lagos.
For tertiary institution, she attended the University of Lagos, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Arts. While studying there, she went to dozens of auditions and applied for acting positions.
However, her acting career actually began with the TV show ‘Ripples’ which was popular in the 80s. She starred in it when she was only 8 years old. Although her more serious debut happened in 1998, when she starred in the movie Most Wanted.
After that stunning first role, she has managed to star in more than 80 movies. Some of her most prominent films include Mark of the Beast, Last Party, Sharon Stone and Ijele. Genevieve has received several awards, including Best Actress at City People Awards in 2001, and Best Actress in Leading Role at Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005.
In 2009, Genevieve Nnaji was also featured in one of the segments of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was the first time a Nigerian actress was talked about on the show.
She does not only star in movies, she also produces and directs them. In 2015, she was one of the producers (as well as lead actors) in a movie Road to Yesterday, which won the Best Movie West Africa award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. In addition to that, in 2017, she plans to direct a new movie called Lion Heart.
Genevieve has appeared in a few commercials, like ads for Pronto and Omo. She was also the Face of Lux in 2004 and the Face of MUD in 2010.
Since 2008, she has been running her own clothing line that she named St. Genevieve. It was created for the purpose of charity, as some of the proceeds go to orphanages in Nigeria.

Genevieve has always taken extra care to protect her personal life, but to all those who are wondering whether she is married, the answer is she is single. However, she has a young daughter of about 22 years of age. Her name is Theodora Chimebuka Nnaji, and in 2016, she got married.
If you have already done the math, you would realise that Genevieve Nnaji had her daughter when she was only 16. In an interview, she admitted that because of her catholic upbringing, she didn’t know she was pregnant until the third trimester. Despite everything, her parents accepted the child, and until recently, Theodora lived abroad with her grandmother Bebedatte. Genevieve wanted to keep her daughter away from publicity.
The actress never opened up about who the father of her child was. In fact, she barely ever lets any men come close to her. As she is Catholic, divorce is not an option for her, and she is still waiting for ‘the one’. Although it never stopped the news media outlets from linking her with numerous men, including Ramsey Nouah and D’banj.
