There was gridlock for several hours along the Olorunsogo-Academy area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan on Tuesday following an auto crash involving a trailer and a Toyota Hiace bus marked LAGOS XS476 GGE.
The driver of the commercial bus was said to have been trapped in the mangled vehicle for close to two hours.
The accident occurred when the tyres of a Lagos-bound trailer marked XT 998 AGL slipped to a section of the road under repair.
The container on the trailer fell on the commercial bus and another Toyota Camry marked LAGOS SMK 24 AV.
The accident, which occurred near Adesola bus stop, CAC Grammar School, affected traffic flow along the highways in the areas for several hours.
The driver and only occupant of the Camry car was said to have wriggle out of the car through the door as rescue operation was on to free the bus driver.
The whereabouts of the trailer driver could, however, not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Repair work on a section of the expressway began on Tuesday last week with soldiers and policemen controlling traffic in the area.
An eyewitness, Musibau Kasali, said, “It was in the course of trying to manoeuvre that the trailer slipped and the container on it fell on the two vehicles beside it.”
As at the time of filing this report, fire fighters were battling to save the life of the driver of the commercial bus. A crane was used to lift the container so as to free the driver.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Mr. Ayodele Lanade, said the command was not yet aware of the auto crash. He said, “We shall get across to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area for details.”
