One bomber shot dead by soldiers at Maiduguri Barracks
- A bomber was shot dead by soldiers while moving about the perimeter fencing at Giwa Barracks
- A burial ceremony for five slain Boko Haram victims recently beheaded at the Konduga area, not far from the barracks, was taking place at the time

A mass tragedy was averted on Tuesday, May 30, in Maiduguri, Borno state, when a lone suicide bomber was shot dead by soldiers before he could detonate his bomb.
According to an eye-witness, the suicide bomber was shot dead as he attempted to penetrate and cause mayhem at the Giwa military barracks in Maiduguri.
The incident occurred just as a burial ceremony for five Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), who were killed by Boko Haram, was being carried out by their colleagues.
The victims were previously residents of the Balle Shuwari community, which is about 5km from Giwa Barracks.

The Balle Shuwari community was one of the communities ransacked by members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect in a previous attack.
This led to the displacement of the escaping residents who took up shelter within the IDP camp in Konduga before they were then attacked there again, on Sunday.
Their remains were found on Monday, May 29, a day after they had been beheaded by the invading terrorists.
Premium Times reports that a civilian JTF leader Danbatta Bello, who provided information about the lone suicide bomber, stated that he had been shot and killed by some soldiers who spotted him at the perimeter fencing of Giwa Barracks.

He was attempting to make his way into the barracks when he was caught.
According to the informant, the bomber was shot down at 2:40pm on Tuesday.
Legit.ng learnt that that the three days post-burial Islamic prayers for the five victims of Sunday’s attack, would hold at the Polo area of Maiduguri, on Wednesday, May 31.
The area around Konduga has been hit in recent times by incessant attacks from the Boko Haram terrorists; who last week attacked a dozen IDP’s, hunting within the area.
Four of the victims of that attack were massacred while two are still missing.
Legit.ng had earlier reported that insurgents in Nigeria’s Northeastern state of Borno attacked the Mandarari ward in Konduga local government area of Borno killing seven people.
The law enforcement agency said on Friday, May 5, 2017 that the seven people died after two female members of the terrorist group detonated explosive devices they were laced with.
Malam Murtala Ibrahim of the Borno Police Command Public Relations Unit confirmed the incident in a statement he issued in Maiduguri.
