The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has made it clear that it would not vacate the state roads in Lagos as ordered by the state governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Governor Ambode had recently asked Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) to stay off the Lagos roads permanently.
The governor also ordered the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to limit its operations to the fringes and highways and stay clear from the main streets of the state.
But the FRSC has said its men and officers will remain on federal and state roads to carry out their operations, The Punch reports.
The commander, Zone 8, FRSC, John Meheux, told journalist on Thursday, May 25, in Ado Ekiti that the FRSC had to operate on state roads as part of the duties of the corps.
Meheux made the statement at the first 2017 bi-annual RS8 zonal retreat with the theme, ‘Rebuilding the corporate image of the corps.
He said: “There are crashes on state roads. Fatal crashes are not limited to highways. Are you saying the FRSC should not be involved in rescue operation? We will continue to partner state governments wherever we can.
“There could be crashes on state roads and we’ll come to assist. Our duty is not limited to patrol, rescue is an integral part of our duties.”

The FESC boss commended motorists in the zone for cooperating with the FRSC on the use of speed-limit device.
He said importance of the speed-limit device cannot be over-emphasised, noting that the compliance level in zone 8 was encouraging.
Meanwhile, in its bid to end the issue vehicle overloading, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Osun has impounded some vehicles for carrying more goods than legally required to carry.
The Mbak unit command in what it described as total war against overloading on its Facebook page posted photos of the impounded vehicles.
Legit.ng recalls that the FRSC has warned vehicle drivers against carrying too much load to reduced carnage on the roads.
The warning is particularly directed at articulated vehicle drivers who are told to avoid loading their vehicles above bridge heads and electrical installations.
