BREAKING: Boko Haram attacks military checkpoint

- Female Boko Haram bomber attacked a military checkpoint

Two soldiers were left injured after a female Boko Haram suicide bomber launched a surprise attack on a military checkpoint in the Konduga area of Borno state.

The Cable reports that the attack was carried out on the night of Wednesday, May 17 by a female terrorist.

It was reported that the terrorist pretended to be chatting with a soldier at the military check-point and even asked for his phone number before detonating her explosive.

A witness said: “The soldier did not know what she was up to. She was chatting with him and before he knew it she had detonated her explosive."

A soldier who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed the attack and said soldiers prevented the terrorist from causing grave harm to residents.

“We heard the unfortunate sound and did not know exactly what it was. Before we knew it, we discovered that it was at one of our checkpoints."

“There was no casualty on the civilian side because our men prevented the suicide bomber from going into the residential area.”

The soldiers were rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) where they are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the army said it arrested about 126 suspected Boko Haram members.

The army revealed that the suspects were apprehended at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), camp in Damboa, Borno state.

Army chief, Lucky Irabor, made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists in Maiduguri.

The Major General said the suspects were flushed out during mop up operations.

Irabor said that the mop up was conducted after the Boko Haram terrorists stormed Sabon Gari area in Damboa Local Government area of the state.
