Governor Bello denies being after Melaye's life, calls him a blackmailer

Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has denied allegation by Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district that he is after his life.

Bello said Melaye is a serial liar and a blackmailer and should not be taken seriously at all.

The governor, who spoke through his director general of media and publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, called on the Senate to call Melaye to order and accused the senator of dragging the Senate in the mud.

Fanwo, in an interview with Vanguard said: "It is an embarrassment to logical reasoning. Governor Yahaya Bello is not competing with Senator Dino Melaye for anything.

"He is the governor of the state, father of the state and the leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

"The governor has no reason to be after Dino Melaye’s life. Governor Yahaya Bello cannot hurt a fly. The allegation is not only irresponsible and false, but represent the height of pathological lying.

"There is need for the Senate to call Dino Melaye to order. He should stop embarrassing our revered Senate.

"Anyone who is a serial liar, morally bankrupt and professional blackmailers should not be making laws for us. Senators should be societal role models."

Recall that Legit.ng had earlier reported that Senator Dino Melaye reported to the police that an attempt to assassinate him failed in the early hours of April, 15 2017.

Melaye has since accused several people including Bello and the chairman of Ijumu local government area of Kogi state where the incident happened.

Meanwhile, Dino Melaye launched his book titled 'Antidotes for Corruption' on Monday, May 15.

Among the dignitaries who were at the occasion were Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, his counterpart at the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, deputy president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, the minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Bello Mohammed, his labour and productivity counterpart, Dr. Chris Ngige and former secretary to the government of the federation, Dr. Anyim Pius Anyim.
