Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole yesterday called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to give unethical support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 14 governorship election in the state, just as he reiterated his determination fight against agents of poll manipulation.
Oshiomhole made this remark following reports that the president was determined to return Edo State to his party, the PDP.
Speaking at a rally organised by the women wing of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to drum up support for his re-election bid, Oshiomhole reminded the president that the state voted massively for him and not the PDP in the last presidential election, declaring that “the president must be seen to believe in his promise of transformation, and the basis for transformation is one man, one vote’.
According to Oshiomhole “Edo is our own, we are not looking for external forces. He (Jonathan) should not summit to the forces of manipulation and darkness. In any event I am ready to fight against the forces of manipulation. No amount of Abuja oxygen can put them on their feet.”
Oshiomhole who also accused the PDP of voter cards racketeering said the party was involved in the illicit act because it knew it could not win the election.
He vowed to re-enact the ACN winning streak in the 2011 election. “We swept them in Edo South and North, even the PDP House of representative leader (Akogun) was defeated. We won 89 percent, leaving 11 for them. They are now begging the president to help them.”
However, Edo South PDP women supporters yesterday marched through the streets of Benin in a rally to sensitize voters ahead of the next month’s governorship election led by Mrs Yetunde Airhiavbere, wife of PDP governorship candidate, Retired Major General Charles Airhiavbere.
Meanwhile, members of the Edo State chapter of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and elders forum of the group in Benin said yesterday that it could no longer sit on the fence and watch the unfolding political developments in the state and have therefore declared their support for Governor Adams Oshiomhole in forthcoming July14 governorship election.
Patron of the group and music maestro, Professor Victor Uwaifo, who led other super stars, in his remark, said that it was untenable to change a winning team.
He further said that that history would judge everyone who ignored the call to support Oshiomhole.
