APC in trouble as 5000 politicians join PDP in Enugu

- It is uncertain if former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu would fulfill his promise of delivering the state to APC in 2019

- Currently, the APC and two other political parties in the state just lost a total of 5,000 members and loyalists

In Enugu state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) have lost a total of 5,000 loyalists to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Channels Television reports that the members of the three political parties defected to the PDP and were received during the Enugu West zonal executive meeting.

The mass defection comes just a week after former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu state registered with the APC and promised to deliver the state to the ruling party in 2019.

2019 is still a battle between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party

Leading the defectors, Mathias Nnukwuagu, a former top member of the APC, told the gathering that their decision was based on Governor Ugwuanyi’s humble disposition.

He described the governor as visionary in leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people.

He said: “We on our own without influence by anybody decided to leave APC and join PDP.

“The saying(is) that when the righteous is in authority the people rejoice; Your Excellency, you represent the righteousness of heaven and the people are rejoicing.

“We in one voice commit ourselves to keeping your good works ongoing. We want to keep the good work of PDP going.”

NAIJ.com reports that while reacting, the state PDP chairman, Augustine Nnamani who received the defectors, urged them to abide by the rules of the party.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu recently described Chime, as a political novice.

Ekweremadu made this known while addressing Chime’s kinsmen, under the aegis of Udi Consultative Forum.
