After his defeat, Uche Ogah makes special promise to Governor Ikpeazu

- Uche Ogah admitted that the verdict of the Supreme Court was painful, but that he would now support Governor Okezie Ikpeazu

- Ogah said he was happy that he never encouraged violence while the electoral case lasted from the tribunal to the Supreme Court

In a show of sportsmanship, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah has congratulated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state over the latter’s victory at the Supreme Court on Friday, May 12.

NAIJ.com reports that the Supreme Court ruled in support of the Court of Appeal that affirmed Ikpeazu the governor of Abia state.

In a congratulatory message to Ikpeazu and obtained by NAIJ.com, Ogah said that though the apex court verdict was painful, he has accepted the decision in good faith.

Ogah asked his supporters to join hands with Ikpeazu to move the state forward

“On the 12th of May 2017, the Supreme Court of Nigeria gave its final verdict over my case with Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia state.

“Even though a painful verdict, as someone that believes in the rule of law and the judiciary, I have accepted the decision of the apex court in good faith,” Ogah said.

He thanked his numerous supporters who stood by him throughout the legal battle and urged them to join hands with Ikpeazu to move the state forward.

“May I specially thank my teeming supporters for standing by me all through this journey and may I also use this golden opportunity to congratulate His Excellency, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state and urge all Abians to join hands in supporting the governor in order to move our dear state forward," he said.

Ogah further stated that he was particularly happy that he never encouraged violence nor encouraged his supporters to indulge in any form of violence during his struggle to validate his mandate.

“As the legal battle comes to an end with the Supreme Court's declaration, I'm exceedingly happy today that in the course of this struggle, I never resorted to self-help nor encouraged my supporters to indulge in any form of violence either in my state or elsewhere,” he said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Governor Ikpeazu dedicated his victory over Uche Ogah, at the Supreme Court to the people of Abia state, who he said stood by him all through the period of litigations.

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, Governor Ikpeazu stated that the victory is a re-affirmation of the mandate given to him by the people, and now twice confirmed by the Supreme Court.

“The time for politics is long over, and I have forgiven all those that were bent on distracting me.

“Let all well-meaning Abians, including my opponents, come and join us to grow and develop our state without distractions as we ultimately have stakes in the growth and development of our state and people," Ikpeazu pleaded.
