258 Nigerians arrive country from Libya

- Another batch of 258 Nigerians have returned from Libya

- The returnees comprising 229 male adults, 24 females, four children and one infant

- NEMA’s deputy director, Bandele Onimode said the agency was in contact with the returnees

Not fewer than 258 Nigerians on Thursday, May 11, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport from Libya.

Recall that 253 had on April 25, voluntarily returned from the country.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said it was expecting not fewer than 5,500 Nigerians to be deported from Libya and Mali.

Punch reports that total number of the returnees include 229 male adults, 24 females, four children and one infant arrived.

They arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos today May 12.

NAIJ.com gathered that over 1,500 Nigerians have been arriving Nigeria from Libya since the beginning of the year 2017.

It was learnt that there are two category the returnees. Some voluntarily came back while the others were deported.

NEMA’s deputy director, Search and Rescue, Bandele Onimode, who represented the director-general, Alhaji Mustang Maihajja, said the agency was in contact with the returnees’ in various state governments to make restoring programmes for them.

“We need to advise people to look for opportunities here in Nigeria rather than in other countries,” he said.

NAIJ.com recalls that he National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has said it is expecting not fewer than 5,500 Nigerians to be deported from Libya and Mali.

Director-general Julie Okah-Donli revealed this on Wednesday, May 10 during a visit to the agency’s Lagos office.
