Lai Mohammed finally reacts, reveals key word in President Buhari’s letter to the Senate

Mr. Mohammed who said this on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC said that the ongoing debate of the status of Professor Yemi Osinbajo is a needless distraction, according to Premium Times.

Recall that NAIJ.com reported that President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, intimating the Senate of his return to the London to see his doctors.

In the letter, the president stated that in his absence, Mr. Osinbajo, the vice president would coordinate the affairs of the government.

NAIJ.com also reported that the letter which has brought a lot of debate was first faulted by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

Mao Ohuabunwa, the Senator representing Abia-North at the National Assembly faulted President Buhari's letter intimating the Senate of his medical trip abroad and his delegation of power to the vice president.

He was however ruled out of order by Mr. Saraki.

Also recall that NAIJ.com reported that Barrister Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa said the letter sent by Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate is limits Professor Osinbajo's powers to act.

Adegboruwa called on the Senate to commence the impeachment of Buhari, not because he is sick, but for 'gross misconduct'.

Responding to the controversy on Wednesday, Mr. Mohammed said the whole thing is a “needless controversy and distraction”, adding, “the operative word is Section 145 of the constitution which the president has already referred to.”

Meanwhile, Femi Fani Kayode has also reacted to the development.

He described as dangerous the plan by some people to keep Professor Yemi Osinbajo away from the position as acting president in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari had left the country on Sunday, May 7 for medical treatment and the vice president was duly expected to replace him in acting capacity.
