Sergeant shoots girlfriend and then kills self in Yobe

- A policeman in Yobe state has shot his girlfriend and killed himself on Tuesday, May 10

- Neighbors report that the couple who were living together were having problems

- The girlfriend is in critical condition at a hospital in the state

It was a sad Tuesday in Potiskum town, Potiskum local government area of Yobe state, on May 9, when a police sergeant identified only as Kennedy shot his girlfriend and killed himself.

According to Daily Trust, the incident happened around 11:45am inside the sergeants apartment located at Old Secretariat building, adjacent Potiskum police station in the state.

Abdumaliki Sunmonu, the Yobe state police commissioner confirmed the incident, saying that the sergeant was in the room with his girlfriend when the gunshots were heard.

Sunmonu also said: “Later on, it was discovered that the sergeant shot his girlfriend, and shot himself. They were both taken to the hospital. While the Sergeant was confirmed dead, the girlfriend was in a critical condition.”

One of the neighbors of the police officer also said that the deceased was having problems with the girlfriend.

The neighbor said: “They were having some issues these days, blaming the Margi lady of having extra affairs, but nobody suspected he would do something like that."

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium in Ughelli, Delta state on Sunday night, May 7, as unknown gunmen attacked and shot the area commander of the Ughelli area command of the Delta state police command, ACP Usman Ndanbabo.

The Nation reports that Ndanbabo was shot twice at close range. A senior police officer at the command, who spoke on anonymous condition said: “He was returning from an outing at about 8:00p.m in his Nissan SUV when he noticed that a Toyota car had been trailing him.

"He tried fleeing from his car when he got to the roundabout opposite the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, along Isoko Road, but his assailants opened fire on him, shooting him on the back and his stomach and left him to die."
