We negotiated for 83 Chibok girls but 1 refused to return - Garba Shehu

- The special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity has said that 83 girls were negotiated for by the government

- Garba Shehu said one of the girls was unwilling to return home

- He said the girl refused to come home because she has found a husband among the terrorists

The senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity Garba Shehu on Tuesday, May 9, said one out of the 83 Chibok girls negotiated for refused to return.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a morning programme on Channels Television, Shehu said the girl was unwilling to return with the 82 that were freed.

Shehu said the girl refused on the ground that, "she has found a husband" among the members of the terrorist group.

“83 were negotiated to come back but one said I have found a husband, I am happy where I am. So they left her and brought back the 82,” Garba said.

“At first, when the negotiation started people were ridiculing us. But we are here now," the presidential aide said.

NAIJ.com recalls that 82 of the over 200 Chibok girls abducted by members of the Boko Haram sect three years ago were released on Saturday, May 6.

The girls, the federal government said were released after a negotiation deal with leaders of the terrorist group.

NAIJ.com also gathered that five commanders of the group held in detention in various facilities of the Nigerian government were released in exchange of the 82 girls.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has also promised that the battle against insurgency in Nigerian will not end until all the girls are completely rescued.
