Meet the First Ladies: What you should know about these 6 north east govs' wives (photos)

Nigerian governors have high taste, especially when it comes to women. A look at the first ladies of various states is enough proof that the state governors love beautiful and classy women.

Do you know who the First Lady of your state is? If so, how much do you know about her?

A lot of people know the governors of their states but when it comes to who the First Lady is, they have no idea.

NAIJ.com has compiled a list of first ladies from the north east and some important facts about them.

1. Adamawa state: Hajiya Maryam Muhammad Umar Jibrilla

Born to the family of Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, a former minister of agriculture, a technocrat and a Daura based traditional title holder, the Dan Masani Daura.

She attended Capital Primary School in Kaduna and the Federal Government College at Bakori in Katsina where she obtained her Senior School Certificate. She obtained her bachelors of science degree in political science from the School of Management and Social Sciences, Bayero University. After that, she enrolled for her Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in the United Kingdom.

She has made widows and orphans the focal point in her contribution to the development of the entire human race

As the number one woman in a state that has had to deal with the reoccurrence of incidence of bomb blasts, she has made widows and orphans the focal point in her contribution to the development of the entire human race.

2. Bauchi state: Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar

She got married to the governor of Bauchi state in 1979 and they are blessed with five children and six grandchildren. She attended Government Girls College, Dala, Kano and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria where she obtained an M.A in Public Administration and B.A (Hons) Literature. She did her NYSC in 1979.

She has a pet project called Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative (B-SWEEP)

She worked in NTA for 10 years and retired as a director in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) after 21 years. She is the founder of a non-governmental organisation named Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative (B-SWEEP).

3. Borno state: Hajia Nana Kashim Shettima (Uwar Marayu)

She has a pet project called Support for Widows, Orphans and Tsangaya (SWOT) Foundation

She holds a diploma in Mass Communication and also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID). Being the First Lady of a state constatntly under the attack of Boko Haram insurgents, she uses Support for Widows, Orphans and Tsangaya (SWOT) Foundation, a pet project founded by her, to bring succour to the less privileged women , most of whom were victims of the serial insurgent attacks.

4. Gombe state: Hajia Adama Dankwambo

This First Lady has empowered a number of women using her foundation

She is a first lady with the heart of gold who has empowered a lot women under her pet project Hajiya Adama Women Empowerment Programme (HAWEP). Her pet project is aimed at reducing poverty and impacting positively on the lives women for them to benefit from the dividends of democracy.

5. Taraba state: Mrs. Anna Ishaku

She is the founder of Hope Afresh Foundation, which focuses on women, youth, children, physically challenged and vulnerable, particularly the unreached, all in a bid to impact positively on their livelihood. She recently disclosed that the foundation had gone into partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to train 220 unemployed youths in the state.

She is a law graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and was once the chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyer’s (FIDA).

6. Yobe state

Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe state has never recognized an office of the first lady. He has three wives and keeps their affairs private. They have no “pet projects and do not accompany the governor to any public function.

In the NAIJ.com video below, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state showed men how women should be treated as he drove his wife, Funsho, from the cultural centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, to their residence after a march against gender-based violence.
