Man assaults policeman in Lagos

A 32-year-old man, Saheed Alowonle, has attacked a police officer, Sgt. Omege Folusayo, on April 7, in Lagos state.

NAN reports that Sgt. Folusayo was on duty on the said day at Aguda, Ogba, opposite Excellence Hotel, when Alowonle attacked him viciously, destroying his reflective jacket.

He has however been arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and malicious damage at the Ikeja Magistrate court today, Monday May 8.

In his ruling, the magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun said the sureties must be blood relations of the accused and should also provide evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The court adjourned the case until May 22 for mention.
