Armed robbers attack Chinese man outside bank, kill police inspector, escape with 10 million

- A gang of robbers attacked a Chinese man outside Diamond Bank, Owerri

- They got away with N10 million he just withdrew from the bank

- The expatriate orderly, a police inspector was killed during the attack

A robbery outside Diamond Bank, Item street, Owerri, Imo state has left one person dead and another injured as the robbers got away with N10 million.

The robbers reportedly waited outside the bank for a Chinese contractor who was there to withdraw money and pounced on him the moment he came out of the bank with the money.

His police orderly, identified as an inspector in the the Nigeria Police Force was killed while the Chinese man sustained bullet wound but is recovering at an undisclosed hospital.

A source who spoke with Punch Nigeria said: "Immediately the foreigner was driven out of the bank premises in his black Toyota with the number plate Abuja 723 JR by his driver, the gunmen who were already waiting double-crossed his vehicle.

“Two of them jumped out of their car and attacked their target.”

The Nigeria Police Force is yet to issue any statement on the unfortunate incident.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported earlier this week that the Imo state House of Assembly complex situated in Owerri, the state capital, came under attack from suspected armed robbers.

Speaking on the raid on Wednesday, May 3, a lawmaker, Emma Orie, who represents Ohaji /Egbema state constituency said his office was not burgled during the armed robbery attack.

He, however, said that the offices of three of his colleagues, Mike Iheanatu (Aboh Mbaise) Uche Oguwuike (Ikeduru) and Uche Agabiga (Orsu) were robbed by the gangsters.

The lawmaker said the robbery was discovered when the staff members attached to the lawmakers resumed for work in the morning and found out that the tables and chairs had been turned upside down, and computers, documents, television sets and other valuables had been stolen.
