It was no secret that the Goodluck Jonathan administration sought the help of religious leaders during the 2015 election campaign, one of those religious leaders is Father Ejike Mbaka.
Rev. Father Camillus Ejike Mbaka, founder of Adoration Ministries, who was a staunch supporter of Goodluck Jonathan mysteriously withdrew his support for him on December 31, 2014.
Mbaka, in a New Year's Eve sermon he titled "From Good Luck to Bad Luck", on December 31, 2014, accused Jonathan of turning a blind eye to corruption.
What perhaps surprised a lot of people at that time was that the cleric, three weeks before his anti-Jonathan sermon, had urged Nigerians and his followers to support and vote for the ex-president.
Mbaka, had earlier made his declaration of support for Jonathan on December 9, 2014, when Patience Jonathan visited at the Catholic Prayer Ground in Enugu state.
Chairman of THIS DAY Editorial Board Olusegun Adeniyi, in his controversial book, 'Against the Run of Play,' listed possible reasons why Father Mbaka, a supporter of Jonathan suddenly turned against him.
1: The mysterious bird that won't fly
Father Mbaka, after he stopped campaigning for Goodluck Jonathan, said he released some owls into the sky to go and fight for Jonathan and one of the birds refused to fly.
Mbaka reportedly said one of the birds, which represented Jonathan, refused to fly despite being the healthiest and the strongest among the birds released.
This, according to the cleric, symbolises doom for Jonathan's administration.
2: Patience Jonathan's phone number
This is perhaps the main reason why Father Mbaka stopped campaigning for Goodluck Jonathan.
Mbaka asked Dame Patience Jonathan for her phone number after she visited him, but the former first lady refused to give it to him.
When Mbaka won't stopped bugging her for her phone number, she reportedly asked one of her followers, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr John Kennedy Opara to give Mbaka his phone number instead.
Mbaka considered Mrs Jonathan's refusal to give him her phone number as an "offence", especially when he tried to call the number that was given to him but was unable to talk to her.
According to Mbaka: "When she (Dame Jonathan) came, I told her to give me her (mobile phone) number so that I could give her messages, but thrice, she refused. It was later she told one of the pastors with her to give me his number. So, before that message (Mbaka's preaching against Jonathan), I had called the number for two weeks but it was always the Personal Assistant to the pastor that picked the calls."
Mbaka after his sermon against former President Jonathan, started campaigning for APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, and this was one of the major damages that hit Jonathan's campaign back then.
