Pandemonium broke out in Abeokuta yesterday, when some gun-wielding hoodlums believed to be political thugs chased away leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from 20 local government areas of Ogun State, preventing them from gaining access to the party Secretariat for the monthly stakeholders meeting.
The hoodlums numbering about 10 had positioned themselves within the Secretariat before the arrival of the members of the party loyal to Bayo Dayo-led faction and charged at them from inside the building, threatening to shoot them with their pump action and double barrel guns.
Journalists and few security operatives present at the scene had to take cover during the melee.
The aggrieved members who had stormed the Ogun State PDP Secretariat located on the Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta as early as 7:30a.m., staged a protest by carrying placards with various inscriptions, such as “Enough is enough”, “Obasanjo, stop destroying PDP for your godson”, “we say no to Jankara politics,” and “Oyinlola, allow peace to reign in Ogun PDP,” among others.
It would be recalled that, a faction of the party loyal to former President Olusegun Obasanjo last week reportedly seized the party Secretariat from Dayo faction, which had been in charge of the Secretariat.
