- Ogbulafor said he advised former President Goodluck Jonathan concerning the 2015 general election but that the latter refused to listen
- Jonathan's refusal to hearken to the advice, according to Ogbulafor, is the reason for his woeful loss in 2015
A former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, has revealed how ex-President Goodluck Jonathan caused his own political defeat in 2015.
According to Ogbulafor, Jonathan’s refusal to adhere to a one-term agreement and the zoning principle in the PDP resulted in the party losing the 2015 election and the crisis currently being suffered by the party.
NAIJ.com reports that Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff have been in a long-drawn battle for the soul of the PDP.
Ogbulafor said he advised Jonathan against seeking re-election, but added that the latter refused.
Leadership reports that Chief Ogbulafor revealed this in Olokoro, Umuahia, Abia state while he spoke on the challenges facing the once ruling party.
“The crisis in the PDP has lingered so long and has made many stakeholders to defect to that All Progressives Congress,” he reportedly said.
He also admitted that the morale of PDP stakeholders was presently low; he however expressed optimism that the party would pick up if the Supreme Court judgment favours Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi.
The former party chairman further commended Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for effectively steering the ship of the nation since President Muhammadu Buhari became ill.
He said: “I have always prayed for the president to get well so that he would resume his duties fully at Aso Rock Villa.”
While praising the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, for infrastructural development, he also commended the judiciary for granting Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), bail.
