Seized N13B probe: NIA finance officials to appear before Osinbajo's investigative panel today

- The investigative panel led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has invited some finance officials of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA)

- The official were invited through a letter sent to them by the panel

- They are expected to appear before the investigative panel today, April 24

- The panel also plan to have a joint session with the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu and the DG of NIA Ayodele Oke

Some officials of the finance department of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are scheduled to appear before the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led investigative panel, Punch reports.

The officials NAIJ.com gathered were some of the aides of the suspended director general of the NIA Ayodele Oke who has been accused of hiding N13 billion in a safe house in Ikoyi, Lagos state.

A source within the presidency said the panel expects the officials to explain how such huge amount of money was kept outside a financial institution.

“Some of those invited are from the finance department. The panel hopes to understand the workings of the NIA and how it spends cash relating to projects and security matters.

“The invited persons will also explain what the money was spent on and what sort of security projects the NIA had done which required such a sum of money," the source said.

He however said that while invitations have been sent out to these officials, the panel is yet to sent a letter of invitation to the suspended DG.

Recall that N13 billion was discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a luxury apartment in Osbrone Road in Ikoyi, Lagos state

The money which was recovered in both foreign and local currencies were said to have been allegedly stored by the NIA for covert operations.

Also, the chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu is said to have submitted the commission's report on the recovered money to the committee led by the vice president.

Magu who had earlier appeared before the three-man committee said he had all reasons to believe that the money was stored for suspicious reasons.

A source said: “It is true that Magu has appeared before the committee but it will be wrong to say that he was quizzed. That word sounded as if he is also being investigated."

“The truth is that if not for the EFCC boss, that money was meant to be shared by some people,’’ the source added.

NAIJ.com also gathered that the committee plans to have a joint session with Magu and Oke.

The source said it is important that the duo meet each other face to face over the allegations against Oke.
