The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin, has revealed that some arrested oil thieves have made efforts to bribe the Corps in order to secure their release.
Abolurin said this while speaking with journalists after meeting with zonal and states commandants at the NSCDC’s Academy on Saturday in Abuja.
While giving instances of alleged bribe offered to the NSCDC officials, he said “N5 million was offered to the Corps as bribe by a certain suspect, which was collected and paid to the treasury.”
Abolurin added that other millions of naira offered to the Corps as bribe were all paid into the treasury and suspects have been arrested and prosecuted in courts.
He said the arrest of 33 trailers with crude oil in Sokoto State and prosecution of the perpetrators was only few of the Corps’ achievements this year.
