Though the average Nigerian politician would want to deny it, many citizens have the impression that politics is not meant for the faint-hearted. It is a game of serious opposition and personal interest as seen in the constant 'war' between former friends. Here are some of such cases:
Buhari versus Saraki and 6 biggest political fights in Nigeria
It is not easy to be a politician in Nigeria. It is even a bigger task being a political leader in the country. The citizens have continued to watch with utmost amazement as the executive arm of the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate led by Bukola Saraki continue to throw ‘mud’ at each other.
The president is now prepared to make peace with the lawmakers, but will this peace help the country?
El-Rufai versus Shehu Sani
It is a lingering war between Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Senator Shehu Sani and this battle does not seem to have an end. Sani believes that he is being persecuted by the governor for always being truthful and sincere. He has been suspended multiple times by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state but the senator is not perturbed. He continues with his criticisms of the state government.
Governor Abubakar versus Dogara and others
The problem between Speaker Yakubu Dogara and the governor of Bauchi state, Mohammed Abubakar, has been on for a long time. Dogara had even reported the governor to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC which they belong. Dogara and his colleagues from the state are accusing the government of failing the people while governor is responding and accusing the lawmakers of abandoning those who voted for them.
Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi
The battle for the soul of the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party has forced many of its members to defect to other political parties, especially the APC. It has also resulted in the abandonment of the party’s headquarters in Abuja. The party is now factionalise and all efforts to bring the warring members together have remained futile.
Ayodele Fayose versus Buhari
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has assumed the main opposition in the country since his PDP has scattered like a pack of cards. Fayose picks holes in almost every action of President Buhari and his government. He however praise where that is needed. The controversial governor who is seen as a grassroots politician has grown to be loved by a lot of people while some others accuse him of being loquacious.
Rabi’u Kwankwaso versus Abdullahi Ganduje
There is serious tension between former governor of Kano state, Rabi’u Kwankwaso and his supposed godson, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Nobody can actually tell where the battle is headed but recently, Kwankwaso was rumoured to have left for the PDP, but the former governor denied this and accused Ganduje of planning a new party with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Wike versus Amaechi/FG
The battle between Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi may never end. It started during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. Amaechi was then the governor of the state. That era is one the former governor, now the minister of Transport under Buhari, will never forget in a hurry.
