Suswam Donates Over 10,000 Books To Students In Benue

Wife of the Benue State Governor Mrs. Yemisi Suswam has donated assorted brands of books to pupils and students of primary and secondary schools in Benue State to improve their reading culture.

The chairperson of Northern Governors Wives Forum made the donation, weekend, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, during the marking of Global World Reading Day which was commemorated in conjunction with the Gemstone Reading Festival in the state. More than 20 schools attended the occasion.

The first lady advised the students to shun cultism and examination malpractices in order to prepare themselves as good future leaders and improve the quality of educational system in the state and country.

Mrs. Suswam explained that the aim of donating reading materials to pupils and students was to enhance the standard of learning, especially in the local schools, noting that the gesture was to serve as a morale booster to the less privileged students who she said were often times unable to purchase the needed books for study.

“Today, I have decided to donate these books to our primary school pupils and to those students in the secondary schools free of charge to enhance learning in the state; because I discovered that most of the students are unable to buy books. This will go a long to fast track their reading capabilities. Wherever cultism is mentioned their names will not be called, and when armed robbers or prostitutes are called their names will not belong to such groups,” Suswam said.

She stated that the reason she has decided to be committed in uplifting the lives of the less privileged was to complement the effort of her husband, Governor Gabriel Suswam who she described as the doctor of infrastructure and added that the development would go a long way to support the ‘Our Benue, Our Future’ blue print of the administration.
