Senate summons Emefiele, Babachir over funds, economy

The Senate has summoned the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, March 21, summoned the governor of Central Bank Godwin Emefiele and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.

The Senate in their summon letter said Emefiele was invited to appear before it for briefing on intervention fund implementation.

Emefiele is expected to throw light on the progress made by the CBN on the use of its intervention facilities to boost the dwindling economy.

There was however, no date fixed for his appearance.

Meanwhile, Babachir,is expected to appear before the Senate on Wednesday, March 22, over discussion on an ongoing investigation on him over claims that funds mapped out for humanitarian crisis in the North-East region were mismanaged.

The decision of the Upper Chambers, Vanguard reports is sequel to a motion sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party Senator representing Abia North Mao Ohabunwa.

The motion is: the Need for the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to Implement its Intervention Funding Programmes to Qualified Nigerian Companies and Exporters.

Lawal's summon was premised on a letter dated March 15 and signed by the chairman, Senate Ad- Hoc Committee on mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East Shehu Sani, an All Progressives Congress senator representing Kaduna Central.
