EKSU allegedly introduces dress code, bans ankle chains, slippers, others
It appears the students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) now have a new code of dressing.
According to a notice posted on EKSU SU Facebook page, the code of dressing was introduced taking cognizance of the individual freedom of dressing.
The guideline for the code of dressing prohibits any dress that exposes vital parts of the body or is provocative.

Also any dressing which obscures the facial identity of any student is prohibited.
Individual faculties and colleges have been given the privilege to draw up additional guidelines that are relevant to their academic activities.
The following are prohibited:
- Tattered jeans
- Patterned/Flowered jeans
- Loose ties
- Open or folded sleeves
- Jumpy tops
- Micro mini dresses
- Sleeveless tops
- Low-necked tops
- Baggy shorts/dungarees
- Heavy jewelries
- Flying shirts
- Slippers (allowed on Fridays but not bathroom slippers)
- Ankle chains
- Sagging
- Men wearing jewelries
- Abnormal haircut/style
This is not the first time a Nigerian university will be introducing dress code for students. Recently, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) introduced a dress code for students of the institution.
The notice clearly stated that lecturers and administrators had the power to correct/exclude students from lectures and official business when they are indecently or not properly dressed.
In response, the management of the university distanced itself from the alleged dress code issued to students.
