In a seeming twist of events, the Ahmed Makarfi group of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that was alleged to have approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to seek registration for a new party, has made a U-turn.

Last week, reports claimed that Makarfi had approached the INEC to register Advanced People’s Democratic Party (APDP) following the over the one year crisis that has bedeviled the party where his group is locked in a battle of wits with Ali Modu Sheriff.

Spokesman of the committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said in a statement on Sunday that the faction has no plan to drop the PDP for Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The statement read in part: "We state clearly and without ambiguity that the National Caretaker ‎Committee of the PDP is not in any way involved in the plans to register ‎any party by the name APDP or any other party for that matter.

"We however, acknowledge and recognize the rights of party members to ‎seek alternative platform to actualize their political dreams which is ‎an inalienable right guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal ‎Republic of Nigeria.”
