Others who have left the troubled party for the APC include Ken Nnamani, a former Senate president, Chief Jim Nwobodo, as well as former Abia state Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

Captain Orji, who was said to have dumped the PDP in his Enugu state reportedly left for the APC with scores of his supporters.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that while speaking with journalists after Orji registered with the APC, the southeast national vice chairman of party, Emma Enukwu, said the ruling party had won a ‘political caterpillar’ believing that he would join forces with other progressives and democrats in the state ahead of 2019.

Orji, who is from the same local government with Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, had, at a time, contested for governorship under the defunct All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state.

Enukwu, pleaded with other top politicians in the south-east who are in other parties to emulate Orji, adding: “It is only by embracing the ruling party that Ndigbo could be part of the main stream in the nation’s body polity.”

According to Enukwu, Orji would automatically become a member of the state caucus of the APC as arrangements are being made to formally receive him.
