- The crisis currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems determined not be resolved
- A third faction known as the ‘True PDP National Movement’ has emerged claiming to have the solution to take the party out of trouble zone
- Since its defeat by the APC in the 2015 presidential election, the once powerful ruling party has broken into two factions
According to a report in the Nigerian Tribune, a new group with the name 'True PDP National Movement' has emerged.
The group, at its meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Thursday, February 2, vowed to counter the alleged propaganda by the ruling the All Progressive Congress (APC).
A communique released by the group, signed by its chairman, Abdulahi Aliyu Babawo, and the secretary, Efiedi Nkonko, said its members acknowledged the efforts and contributions of the founding fathers of the PDP “in forming a formidable political party that has continuously served the interest and aspirations of the Nigerian people.”
The communique added: “The meeting after extensive deliberations agreed to sensitise and mobilise the Nigerian people towards the good works of the party over the years and to reject the negative propaganda embarked upon by the ruling party to tarnish the hard earned reputation of the party.”
The group commended former President Goodluck Jonathan, PDP leaders and stakeholders in helping to create peace in the party.
The group also reportedly asked its zonal leaders to evolve strategies to improve the party.
Recall that NAIJ.com had reported that the factional chairman of the party, Alli Modu Sheriff, had refused entreaties to step down. The Makarfi faction has also stuck to its guns as the party continues to reel in the agony of its first presidential loss since 1999.
