The money that is keeping Nigeria afloat is from Rivers - Wike blasts Police

- Governor Wike has called for the punishment of people indicted by the INEC report

The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has lashed out at the Nigeria police, stating that in a fair and just atmosphere, those indicted by the report of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would have been properly punished.

Governor Wike, while speaking on Wednesday, February 22 during a campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at Okehi, headquarters of Etche local government area of Rivers state said: “If we were in a civilized country with the right leadership, the persons mentioned in the report would have resigned from their positions.

"They should bury their heads in shame. They are plotting against us, but God is exposing them. It is only God that has the final say."

Ahead of the re-run election for Etche/Omuma federal constituency and Etche state constituency seats, the governor enjoined INEC and security agencies to ensure a free and fair re-run election in the area on Saturday, February 25.

The governor also appealed to people of the area to turn out in large numbers and vote overwhelmingly for his party. “The money that is keeping Nigeria afloat is from Rivers State. Therefore, Nigeria must listen to Rivers State. The voices of our people must be heard,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it will corps members will not work as ad-hoc staff in the Saturday, February 25, Rivers state rerun election.

The Rivers state coordinator of the NYSC Omotayo Adewoye said the corps members will not be available for the election exercise due to violence in the areas.
