5000 members of APC, APGA, others defect to PDP in Anambra
- At least 5000 supporters drawn APC, LP, PPA and APGA supporters have defected to PDP in Anambra state
- They were welcomed by the chairman of PDP in Oniitsha North Chief Oraegbunam Anene
- Anene says it is unfortunate the incident that brought APC to power at the national level but noted that Anambra state remains a PDP state
At least 5000 supporters drawn from All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) over the weekend defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Onitsha North local government area of Anambra state.
It was gathered that the crowd comprised of major stakeholders and were welcomed by the chairman of PDP in Oniitsha North, Chief Oraegbunam Anene, Vanguard reports.

Anene assured them that the PDP was being restructured from the national level in order to take over power at the national level and Anambra state in 2019 and 2017 respectively.
According to Anene, it is unfortunate the incident that brought APC to power at the national level but noted that Anambra state remains a PDP state.
He called on the state, local and ward executives of the party to commence aggressive mobilisation of electorate so that PDP can take over in the next governorship and other upcoming elections.

On his part, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, a PDP chieftain, felicitated with the local government meeting, enjoining members both old and new to close ranks to be able to win the upcoming governorship election.
The defection in Anambra state comes just days after at least 1,500 members of the APC have dumped the ruling party for the opposition PDP in Katsina state.
It occurred in Randa town, Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina state on Friday, February 3.
