DSS fingers South-south governor plotting against federal government

- The Department of Security Service (DSS) has laid huge allegation against an unnamed governor in the southern region of Nigeria

- The DSS says the governor is plotting against the federal government and has organised violent protest in his state

- The Department says the protest organised by lawyers in the state to protest their member in DSS was staged with a hidden agenda

A governor in Nigeria’s South-south region has been fingered by the Department of State Security (DSS) to be plotting the downfall of the federal government of Nigeria.

According to The Nation, the DSS said the governor is under investigation.

The governor, the DSS said, is also reportedly sponsoring violent demonstrations in his state.

Although the DSS did not state the name of the governor, it said the governor and his group had a hidden agenda against the federal government.

Following a protest by ‘Lawyers in Defense of Democracy’, a DSS official, who did not disclose his name, said: “The protest was misplaced. We believe that that protest by the group, claiming to be acting on behalf of some aggrieved lawyers and Human Rights activists, has other hidden motives.

The protesters’ main grouse was that some lawyers who are members of their group are being detained by the DSS. I wish to state categorically that no lawyer is in our custody. I repeat, no lawyer is being detained in DSS custody.

“The names like Ugochukwu Apumaga, Emeka Dibia and Ejike Nwachukwu that were paraded on Monday by the protesters as members of their group are not lawyers.”

According to the official, the people in their custody were arrested for their role in the botched move by the governor to initiate violent demonstration with subversive posters.

He absolved the DSS of denying any arrest it had ever made while maintaining that the service lawyers are always available to explain to the public issues concerning those arrested.

“It is therefore curious and even strange if these organizations being mentioned are not pseudo organizations being used by Ikenga, to carry out paid jobs," the DSS official said.
