Fresh details have emerged on the reluctance of the All Progressives Congress national leader Bola Tinubu was reluctant to lease his aircraft for the exile mission of Yahya Jammeh - the immediate past president of The Gambia.

The Nation reports that the aircraft – a Falcon 900 – ferried Jammeh, his mother; wife, Zainbu and his son, Mohammed alongside the Guinean president Alpha Conde to Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, January 21.

It was however gathered that Tinubu considering the tension already generated by the crisis was reluctant to lease his aircraft for the mission.

The APC leader was however, said to have been persuaded by Conde and Mauritania’s president Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz.

The duo explained to Tinubu how important an aircraft was needed o ground in Banjul to complete the planned exile of the nation’s former president.

But despite the persuasion, it was learnt that Tinubu only agreed to lend the aircraft to Conde on the condition that it ferried only, the Guinean president, Jammeh, his mother, wife and son.

He was said to have also noted that restoring peace in Gambia was paramount.

Sources close to the process said that aside the five individuals, no other person or property belonging to Gambia was moved in the aircraft.

The source said, contrary to reports that Jammeh stole Gambia blind by moving $11 million, investigations have revealed otherwise.

The source said: “No such happened, in fact, it was impossible for looted monies to have been taken away on an aircraft that was in public glare. The radar of the international media, security forces and Gambian people was on the aircraft.”

“It is practically impossible to load millions of dollars on the plane. In any case, no money was loaded into the plane, safe Guinean President Conde, Jammeh, his wife, mother and son,” the source added.
