Adama Barrow will return to Gambia on Tuesday - Official

- The Gambia's president Adama Barrow is set to return to the country

- Barrow's spokesperson said the president will be returning to Gambia from Senegal of Tuesday, January 24

- Barrow has been in Senegal where he was inaugurated over threat to democracy in Gambia by his predecessor Yahya Jammeh

Adama Barrow, The Gambia’s new president will be returning to Bangul, the country’s capital city on Tuesday, January 24.

Barrow’s return comes after the past president Yahya Jammeh was ousted from the country to Equatorial Guinea on an exile.

Barrow’s spokesperson, Halifa Sallah, said the president is planning to return to The Gambia after the West African troops have secured the country and his predecessor already on exile.

Barrow assumed office on January 19, after an election where he was declared winner against Jammeh on December 1.

However, after conceding defeat, Jammeh made a U-turn refusing to let go power as president.

This led to the decision of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to send in military contingency led by Nigeria defence troops into Gambia.

The incident also resulted to the inauguration of Barrow at The Gambia’s Embassy in Dakar, Senegal.

Meanwhile, it was also gathered that Jammeh who is currently on exile, was airlifted in a jet belonging to the All Progressives Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu.
