Terrible state of roads in Governor Ajimobi's Oyo state
Some residents of Oyo communities have slammed Governor Ajimobi over the deplorable state of roads in their area.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state may have courted another trouble in his state after some of the residents lamented bitterly about the terrible state of the roads in their communities.

Legit.ng correspondents in the state discovered that although the activities in Igbo Ora, the town renowned for its possession of the largest gathering of twins worldwide, were not so much, the eroded parts of the road did not make the place look any better.

The people living in Olorunsogo, especially the High School road area, stated categorically that their governor has been embarking on meaningless missions since he won the last governorship election.

As observed by our correspondent in the quiet community, no two vehicles can pass beside each other at a time. Any oncoming vehicle or motorcycle had to wait for the other one so as to avoid a head-on collision as the road had caved in at the midpoint.

The people's grouse was further fueled by the fact that the students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), who had been on strike for about eight months, were neglected by the governor as he even lambasted those who were protesting against him.

He was quoted to have called himself a 'constituted authority' for whom the students failed to accord due respect.

Speaking with our correspondent in their native Yoruba dialect, one of the men living in the area noted without fear, that their governor may have been good to some people in the state, but his 'blindness' to certain important things will not amount to praise singing.

"All he knows how to say these days is that he's a constituted authority at the expense of communities that are closing up on being destroyed.

"See these places which pictures you have taken now, this is how things will start getting spoilt without anybody paying so much attention to it. What will it take to fix this part of the road that is being washed away now?" the man who pleaded anonymity queried.

Also on the same issue, one of the residents who was rather ruthless in his approach, as he claimed that the contract was given out to people who would build substandard roads even though huge amounts had been earmarked for the projects.

The man who said he could be identified as Simon, said: "If you look at the road very well, you'll observe that they have not been in existence for a very long time, but look at the state they are presently.

"The governor will be attacking students who are telling him the truth instead of fixing simple things that will ease existence for the people in the community. We have been like this for about six to eight months now and nothing has been done to salvage the situation.

"If nothing is done to this place in the coming weeks, we shall be in trouble here or avoidable accidents will start happening because it is already getting out of hand as you can see for yourself."

Although they refused to speak with Legit.ng directly, some of the motorcyclists plying the route urged our photojournalist to take more pictures so that the governor and those in power would see their predicaments and proffer a lasting solution without delay.

"Is this what a normal society should look like?" one of the local motorcyclists asked rhetorically as he waited for a compatriot to pass before continuing with the journey.
