President Buhari condoles with family and Borno state over IDP camp bombing

President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged federal help to Borno state government in attending to the operational mistake that took place in the state today.

Buhari speaks on IDP camp bombing

The president made the call on Tuesday, January 17, in reaction to the military jet that mistakenly dropped a bomb inside the Rann IDP camp in Borno state leading to the death of at least two people with a hundred injured.

Buhari in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina pleads for calm, while praying to God to grant repose to the souls of the dead.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has received with deep sadness and regret, the accidental bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by the Nigerian Air Force, engaged in the final phase of mopping up insurgents in the North-east.

President Buhari condoles with families of the dead, wishes the wounded divine succour, leading to full recovery, and sympathizes with the Borno State government.

The President pledges federal help for the state government in attending to "this regrettable operational mistake," and pleads for calm, even as he prays God to grant repose to the souls of the dead."

The Rann IDP camp is located in Kala-balge local government area and it caters for thousands of persons displaced by Boko Haram.

Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar who is the spokesperson of the army confirmed the tragic incident and said the military deeply regretted the error.

He said the military got intelligence report of Boko Haram and deployed ground and air troops and that it was the air troop that mistakenly dropped bomb on the IDP camp.
