UNIMAID student makes autonomous robot, alcohol detector (photos, video)

Haruna Abubakar, an engineering student of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Borno state, has made an autonomous robot and a prototype of an alcohol detection system that can be incorporated in automobiles.

He presented it to his colleagues who belong to a group, Borno Tech Forum. The group holds a semi-formal fortnightly meeting where they bring their ideas to life.

The forum started when the need arose for a get together of techies and tech enthusiasts in Borno, where they can rub minds, collaborate on projects, start ventures and organize events.

Haruna also presented a prototype of an alcohol detection system that can be incorporated in automobiles

So far, they have held two meetings. At the first meeting, one Abubakar Dala presented Blender, the open source 3D design software. He was also said to have introduced ArcGIS another open source software for Geographical Information System.

Indeed, Nigeria has got talent. Two months back, a young boy from Ebonyi state, Ihere-serg Mascot, assembled a car which is powered by solar energy.
