Southern Kaduna rep laments in the House of Reps

A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Gideon Gwani has raised an alarm over the killings in Southern Kaduna.

Gwani, 52, represents Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna state and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gwani raised a motion on violent attacks on the people of his constituency by unknown gunmen today, January 17.

He said: "Our people are being attacked daily and our farmlands are being destroyed....even recently, crops like ginger were stolen.

"Our orphans and widows are increasing daily and we need this to stop so our villages do not become cemeteries."

Speaking further, the lawmaker condemned those he said are trying to downplay the extent of devastation in the media.

He however acknowledged the efforts by soldiers and other security personnel in the area to quell the crisis.

On his part, Honourable Babale Bashir representing Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency in Kano state (APC) noted that the attacks have been occurring since the 1980s, adding that nothing has still been done to bring the matter to a decisive end.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives urged the Nigeria Police to deal decisively with the perpetrators of the attacks and be more proactive in identifying the exact areas of the attacks.

The lower house also advised the security agencies to carry out a comprehensive security mapping to identify the base of the attackers in order to combat the menace.

The House also resolved to invite heads of all relevant security agencies to brief the House in plenary (a closed session).
