Vigilante group kills 7 Boko Haram militants in Madagali

Local vigilantes on Saturday morning, January 14, killed seven suspected Boko Haram fighters and seized a machine gun in Sabongari village in Madagali, Adamawa state, Daily Trust reports.

This was disclosed by a member of the vigilante group, Abdu Mai, who said the Boko Haram fighters thronged the village in large number but met stiff resistance from a group of hunters and vigilantes.

According to Mai, the Boko Haram members were forced out of the village after an exchange of fire with local vigilantes.

He said seven of the attackers died in the encounter while a machine gun was seized from them.

On his part, Yusuf Muhammad, the council chairman of Madagali confirmed the attack.

He added one of the Boko Haram members was killed by soldiers.

However, Major Badare Akintoye, the spokesman of the 28 Task Force Battalion in Mubi said he could not immediately confirm the report when contacted.

Madagali area which is situated around Sambisa Forest has suffered series of attack since its liberation from Boko Haram in 2015.

Recall that just two days ago, three bombs exploded in Madagali town in the northern part of Adamawa state, with many feared dead.
