SEE 12 fallen heroes and heroine honoured by Nigerian Air Force (LIST)

In celebration of the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Nigerian air force has listed 12 soldiers to be honoured.

The heroes and heroine died in the line of duty

The Nigerian air force personnel were said to have died during battle or in their line of duty.

Below is a list of the fallen Nigerian air force heroes:

1. Umar Abubakar:

Abubakar, sergeant of the Nigerian air force died on July 25, 2013.

He was killed by Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri. He was also the first casualty of the deadly terrorist group in 2013.

2. Akweke Junior Nwakile

Nwakile, a Flight Lieutenant died in a helicopter crash on July 21, 2014 while on a training mission in the South of Bama, Borno state.

3. Abdulrasheed Bamidele Braimoh

Braimoh, a captain was lost when an Alpha jet went missing on September 12, 2014.

The jet was later found to have crashed at Kauri. His death was confirmed by one of his colleague.

4. Chinda Hedima

Hedima, a wing commander was in the missing Alpha jet alongside Captain Braimoh.

Although, Braimoh’s death was confirmed, the whereabouts of the wing commander still remains unknown. The Nigerian air force has however maintained that the wing commander remains missing in action

5. Ubong Akpan

On November 13, 2014, the Nigerian air force witnessed another mishap.

The helicopter conveying two officers crashed near Yola in Adamawa state during an operational flight.

This led to the death of the officers, including Akpan, a captain.

6. Hosea Zabesan

Zabesan until his demise was a warrant officer in the Nigerian air force.

He died alongside Captain Akpan on November 13, 2014.

7. Duke Toryem

Toryem, flying officer died on May 21, 2015 in Borno state.

He died after his patrol vehicle drove past a landmine planted by Boko Haram terrorists in the area.

8. Ebitimi Owei

Owei, flight lieutenant and an F-7Ni pilot died after his air craft crashed in Hong local government area of Adamawa state due to bad weather.

Owei, was said to have been returning to NAF base in the state after a successful interdiction mission against insurgencies operating in the region on August 28, 2015.

To mention but a few also include victims of the Dornier 228 aircraft that crashed in Kaduna on August 28, 2015.

It was ghathered that the air crew along passengers onboard died in the ill-fated flight which took off from Kaduna to Abuja.

The heroes who fell due to the incident are:

9. Squadron Leader Adekunle Suara

10. Flying Officer Kehinde Olaniran

11. Warrant Officer Akpan Etim
