Southern Kaduna killings: Buhari meets with security chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari has met with security chiefs over insecurity challenges parts of Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari has held a meeting with security chiefs over the insecurity challenges in parts of the country.

Vanguard reports that the meeting which took place at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday, January 12, focused on the violence in southern Kaduna, the Niger Delta and other parts of the country.

The minister of defence, Mohammed Dan-Ali, who made this known after the meeting with the president said troops have been moved to Southern Kaduna while negotiations are on-going to end the killings in the area.

Meanwhile, Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, on Thursday, January 12, commended the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, for its professionalism and dedication to duty especially within the embattled northeastern region.

NTA reports, that the governor made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking further, he said that if not for the timely intervention of the Army, the problem of the insecurity in the Southern part of Kaduna State could have been worst.

He also eulogized the Army for decimating Boko Haram terrorists and routing them out of their stronghold at Sambisa forest, describing it as unprecedented.

Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai has been accused by Christian groups of not doing enough to stop the killings in southern part of Kaduna.

The secretary of CAN in the region, Dr Joseph Aka Ajujungwa, who spoke alongside the Chairman of CAN in the South-East, Most. Rev. Prof. David Eberechukwu, in separate press statements, on Wednesday, January 11, declared that the group was holding El-Rufai responsible for the murder of hundreds of Christians in Kaduna state.

They said it was regrettable that the governor, who took oath of office to protect lives and properties in the state was now looking the other way while residents of the Southern Kaduna were being murdered.
